Graphite is used as a  lubricant

 Graphite is fixed above rotating parts

 Due to this arrangement graphite remains in touch  with rotating part and its coating is continuously formed above the rotating part

 This coating of graphite acts as a lubricant

 Similarly graphite can be fixed above, below or side of an oscillating part  to continuously create its  coating that can act as a lubricant
